Dry Needling Therapy for Pain Relief and Recovery
Experience targeted pain relief and accelerated recovery with our expert dry needling therapy. Our skilled therapists use fine needles to stimulate trigger points, releasing muscle tension and promoting natural healing.
Dry needling is a clinical technique that targets myofascial trigger points — sensitive knots in muscle that cause pain and movement restriction. Thin, sterile needles are inserted to release muscle tension, improve circulation, and restore function.
Recent studies show dry needling reduces local pain sensitivity and improves mobility in musculoskeletal conditions
When the needle stimulates a trigger point, it creates a brief local twitch response — a reflex contraction and relaxation of muscle fibers.
This process:
Increases blood flow and oxygen delivery.
Reduces pain mediators such as substance P.
Restores neuromuscular balance by resetting the muscle spindle.
Research suggests dry needling modulates both peripheral and central nervous system pain pathways.
Relieves pain and muscle tightness.
Improves joint mobility and range of motion.
Enhances recovery after injury or overuse.
Deactivates trigger points, improving tissue quality.
May complement manual therapy for chronic pain and postural issues.
A 2022 review found dry needling effective in improving function and reducing pain in patients with neck and shoulder disorders
Dry needling is not offered as a stand-alone service. It’s a targeted technique integrated within our Remedial Massage or Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) sessions, applied when clinically appropriate to enhance recovery and long-term results.
Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?
Not quite. While both use fine needles, acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese meridians, whereas dry needling is guided by modern anatomy, focusing on trigger points and neuromuscular dysfunctions.
Does it hurt?
You may feel a quick twitch or dull ache, this is normal and often indicates a trigger point release. Mild soreness may follow for 24–48 hours.
Is it safe?
Yes, when performed by trained practitioners using sterile single-use needles. Mild bruising or soreness can occur but is temporary.
At Body Motion Therapy, dry needling is incorporated as part of a comprehensive manual therapy plan.
It complements Remedial Massage and Fascial Counterstrain techniques to address muscular tension, pain, and restricted movement. To experience the benefits, simply book a Remedial or FCS session.
Your therapist will include dry needling when appropriate for your condition.
